Customers appreciated the red carpet treatment and the business began to grow. Before long, the small dealership in a garage on Cocasset Street in the center of town was bursting at the seams. In 1964, Don and Gerry took the bold move of relocating the dealership to a relatively undeveloped section of Route One in Foxboro. Fortune followed the Rodmans. Not many years later, a certain local sports franchise was attracted to the same, wide-open area around Route One in Foxboro. By 1972, the Boston Patriots were ready to play their first game in the new Sullivan Stadium. From that day forward, Rodman Ford became a household word to thousands of football and soccer fans and concert-goers. Today, the Rodman organization has grown into one of the leading automotive dealership groups in New England. But loyalty is still the cornerstone of their business. As Don's sons Brett and Curt - as well as all Rodman staffers - carry on the tradition, customers are still treated to the same dedication to their satisfaction. What's changed is that our customers are now welcomed into the most comfortable, luxurious dealerships available anywhere - which makes their experience here even more pleasurable. Through it all, the one question we hear over and over again is, 'Where does the Lion logo come from?' The Lion logo came about because of Don's affinity toward animals, especially jungle animals. Don visited Africa on numerous occasions and even shot a few lions - with a camera, that is! Don liked lions so much that he had a graphic artist weave the family name into the top of a lion's mane. The new Lion logo replaced the 'O' in Rodman and the rest, as they say, is history. Today, stuffed animals adorn our dealerships, our costumed mascot - 'Leo' the friendly lion - makes appearances around town, Lion logos are emblazoned on hats, t-shirts and novelty items and we even had a pet cat named Leo that lived in the dealership for a few years. With our unwavering focus on our customers and lighthearted Lion theme, we make it fun and enjoyable to serve your automotive needs. Let us show you what we mean!

For close to a century, the name Lincoln has been synonymous with luxury, comfort and design. Take a walk with Lincoln through its celebrated past, beginning with the inspiration of a name, the introduction of a classic favorite, the war years and on through to the new millennium. Click on each decade for a brief history and photo exhibit of this truly American classic. THE ROARING 20s The 1920s marked the era in which Lincoln would distinguish itself as the premier American luxury automobile. One of the most famous custom-built cars that came out of Edsel Ford's leadership was the 1922 Lincoln Town Car, which was built for Henry Ford himself. Town Car derived its name from its body styling, which featured an open chauffeur's compartment and enclosed passenger compartment. This configuration elevated the vehicle from mere transportation to a bona fide status symbol. In 1924, Lincoln was on its way to becoming the car of choice for the rich and famous, such as Thomas Edison, W.C. Fields and Herbert Hoover.

This past year, Smail Auto Group celebrated it's 70th Anniversary. While there have been many changes throughout the years, one thing remains the same – it has always been about family for owners, Bud and Jim Smail. The brothers were influenced in their passion for the automobile business by their father, Clarence B. (Bud) Smail Sr. While attending Jeannette High School in the early 1950’s, Bud Jr. worked at his father’s Chevrolet dealership lubricating cars and working in the parts department. In 1956 the Chevrolet dealership was sold, and Bud Sr. then started a Lincoln Mercury franchise in Jeannette. It was a natural move for Bud Jr. to come back from the University of Maryland in 1959 to the Lincoln Mercury dealership. In 1962, the original Lincoln Mercury facility was built on the south side of Route 30 East in Greensburg, and as a result of that new facility, Bud Smail Lincoln Mercury was assigned the Central Westmoreland County area for the Lincoln Mercury Division of Ford Motor Company. Jim Smail, joined the company in 1969, and was instrumental in the 1972 acquisition of the Honda and Yamaha Motorcycle franchises. In 1976 the Honda automobile franchise was added. A new facility was constructed for the motorcycles in 1972, which was expanded for the cars in 1976. In 1980, brother Bill Smail, joined the company. By the mid 1980’s another generation had joined the family business, when Bud’s oldest son Mark joined the company in 1984, and youngest son Jeff in 1987. The 1980’s saw record-breaking growth for these businesses as the brothers acquired Pontiac, Cadillac, Mercedes Benz, Mazda, Isuzu and Acura franchises. The expansion carried over into the 1990’s, with two new additions. In 1991, the GMC light duty truck franchise was acquired, and in 1997 a large collision center was constructed on the hill above Route 30, overlooking the Honda, Acura and Mercedes- Benz dealerships. Kia, the newest addition was just added in the Fall of 2005. Today, Smail Auto Group includes 10 new car franchises (housed within six stores,) five service and parts center, an auto body and collision center, and auto glass repair and replacement center and two professional detail centers. We also operate six full service websites, where customers can research and build new vehicles and search our inventory of pre-owned vehicles. Visitors can also view our current new and pre-owned vehicle specials, as well as print money-saving service and parts coupons.
