Volvo: new Flexi-fuel engine for V70 and S80: New five-cylinder with 200 hp with gasoline or bio-ethanol operated
The new Flexi Fuel powerful engine leaves it to the Volvo driver, whether he wants to drive conventional gasoline, or bio-ethanol. The 200 horsepower five-cylinder Volvo V70 should, and from 2009 in the S80 and swift travel with alternative means of propulsion.
Lower costs
"With the new engine Volvo proves that sustainable mobility and driving pleasure not to be opposites," says Thomas Viehweg, managing director of Volvo Car Germany. Volvo expects sales of 20,000 models for the year 2008, also because of the extra cost compared to conventional motor only 400 euros, but due to the lower price at the pump could be retracted again. Consideration needs to be here but that the consumption due to lower energy content of bio-ethanol increases: Sun Irin the 9.4 liter V70 2.5FT super gasoline (10.4 liters with automatic transmission) to hundreds of kilometers, for the same route but about 30 percent more bioethanol. It requires a bit mathematics to auszurechnen, from how many kilometers around the third cheaper fuel profitable.
CO2 emissions fall
Volvo promises that the emissions of carbon dioxide compared to drive gasoline drops by 80 percent and applies the new drive concept as a very environmentally friendly. But critics accuse here that the production of bio-fuel more fossil energy consumed and therefore the actual environment is questionable.
