Toyota to Recall 2010 Lexus HS 250h
Due to a potential for excessive fuel leakage following rear-impact crashes, Toyota Motor Corp. will recall approximately 17,000 Lexus HS 250h vehicles from the 2010 model year.
The problem was discovered in tests where the rear end of the vehicle was struck at speeds of approximately 50 mph during federal safety tests conducted annually.
The leakage exceeds federal limits and can result in fires according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.
No definite remedy has been identified, nor has a date been set for the beginning of the recall. During the development of the vehicle, Toyota conducted its own rear-impact tests and no leaks were detected.
In a statement issued by Toyota, dealers were told to suspend sales of the 2010 Lexus HS hybrid. "Lexus is currently working to identify the reason for the different test results and the cause of this noncompliance," according to the statement.
Since November, Toyota has recalled more than 10.6 million vehicles around the world for half a dozen separate safety concerns including the well-publicized incidents of sudden acceleration.
