Diesel Injection was founded in 1963 by the late E. W. Madsen. Mr. Madsen trained as a machinist in his native Denmark, before emigrating to Canada in the 1940s. He worked in the marine service industry in major markets such as Miami and the Great Lakes before moving to St. John's and opening a small fuel injection shop with Bosch as its sole distributorship.
Mr. Madsen's focus on customer satisfaction and high quality workmanship quickly earned the loyalty of customers throughout Newfoundland and beyond. Major fuel injection manufacturers such as Roosa Master, Lucas CAV, Bryce and L'Orange recognized the high level of service provided by Diesel Injection and granted Diesel Injection status as an authorized service centre for their products. Diesel Injection quickly added governor service to its portfolio and was authorized by Woodard Governor Company. Diesel Injection also provided turbocharger repairs to round out its service offering.
By the late 1960s Diesel Injection had established itself as a service provider for specialized systems on diesel engines of all types. In the 1980's Diesel Injection became an authorized representative for Alfa Laval. Diesel Injection's service facility was expanded to accommodate the growth from a one person fuel injection shop to a full service diesel service centre that employed a dozen technicians and support staff.
When Mr. Madsen retired in the late 1980's, Art Pearcey, who was the first employee hired by Mr. Madsen, took over management and ownership of the company. Under his guidance, Diesel Injection continued to build strong relationships with customers in Newfoundland and Labrador while expanding its customer base to include the Maritimes and Central Canada. New test and calibration equipment was purchased to expand the company's remanufacturing services. In the late 1990's Diesel Injection added Central and Eastern Canadian distributorships for MAN engines and TDI air starters to its product line up.
In 2005, Diesel Injection merged with Atlantic Engine Controls & Equipment Inc. of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia to create Diesel Injection's Dartmouth office which serves customers in the Maritime provinces. With the addition of the former Atlantic Engine Controls office, Diesel Injection added instrumentation and power generation products and services to its capabilities. In addition to providing better geographic coverage, this exciting new development will benefit our customers by providing a more integrated service across a broad product range.
Diesel Injection now serve customers from the Great Lakes to the Grand Banks. Mr. Madsen's commitment to precision craftsmanship, gained in leading marine service companies in Denmark, is a continuing legacy at Diesel Injection today.
