Description:	Icoms Communications S.A. is a Belgian company specialised in microwave detection of pedestrians and vehicles. This technology is used for a wide variety of applications ranging from traffic control and intelligent traffic systems to automatic door opening and industrial safety. The microwave technology offers alternative solutions to the shortcomings of other detection systems. Easy to install the radar doesn't require road works, it is insensitive to the colour of the ground surface, extreme temperature, dust or humidity; it can be installed almost anywhere, doesn't require maintenance and is particularly well adapted to the cold storage industry, as well as to sterile and other difficult and severe industrial environments. The possibility to measure the speed or to include detection thresholds opens the door to applications in numerous industrial sectors : anti-collision devices for cranes and rolling bridges, discrimination between pedestrians and vehicles for the opening of automatic doors are but a few examples of these. These functions apply similarly to traffic control. The Icoms range of equipment is used for the control of traffic lights and sophisticated cross road situations. Radars measuring the speed, counting the vehicles and classifying them, installed in a telecommunication network can send their information to data collectors allowing to visualise these data on supervision screens and to optimise the traffic flow. With regards to preventive traffic management, Icoms Communications developed the Speed Information Panel (preventive radar for speed measurement) which can be used to make drivers sensitive to their speed in risky area's (hospitals, schools, residential areas, road works …). A specific software has been developed to collect the data and generate statistical data about the traffic in these area's. By the use of the microwave and telecommunication technology Icoms Communications reaches very diverse and sensitive markets, particularly the intelligent traffic systems, where high technology and innovation are used to optimise transportation and thus the well-being of each of us.
